Soldiers deployed to overseas operations have suffered health impacts related to poor waste management operations. Recently, the DoD has recognized the impact of open pit burning on the health and safety of the soldiers and has aligned funding to develop improved waste disposal methods. The DoD, via the Environmental Security Technology Certification Program (ESTCP), selected Trashology to develop a deployable waste to energy system to improve contingency basing waste disposal operations. The technology will meet the DoD's goal of an improved waste management method that eliminates soldier exposure to harmful emissions and reduces fuel logistics for base operations. This project led to the development of Trashology's Pur-Gen system, and the technology is now being demonstrated at Fort Jackson in South Carolina to validate the Pur-Gen system with field deployed waste streams.
